SpeedGauge Awarded New Patents

SAN FRANCISCO, December 14, 2016 - SpeedGauge, Inc. announces that it has been granted two additional United States patents. These are the third and fourth patents awarded to the SpeedGauge partnership between co-founders Jonathan Hubbard and Chris Kantarjiev. They further establish the team’s expertise to extend GPS and location technologies to the safe and efficient operation of vehicles while moving or deployed in the field.

  • Patent # US 9396660B2 Identify Driver Behavior in Traffic Flow

  • Patent # US 9478074B2 Manage and Set Vehicle Performance Guidelines

Already widely deployed in hundreds of thousands of vehicles worldwide, these technologies enable commercial fleet dispatchers and managers to learn about vehicle and driver behavior, particularly dangerous or unusual behavior. Fleet operators can react to what they learn, and communicate directly with drivers and vehicles through the telematics network. This outbound communication capability extends to mobile devices, onboard computers and any other device connected to the network.

In addition to SpeedGauge’s understanding of best practices for managing drivers, these technologies demonstrate the company’s commitment to improving service levels and operational performance for its partners who operate telematics networks.

"SpeedGauge has been collecting and analyzing vehicle data for years, comparing it to established traffic norms and legal speed limit data," said Kantarjiev, SpeedGauge CTO. "These patents validate our understanding of what fleets can learn from the data that comes to them through the telematics system."

According to SpeedGauge CEO Jonathan Hubbard, the first of these two new patents shows that “identifying driver behavior and vehicle movements relative to other drivers and vehicles is precisely how a connected fleet should leverage technology and improve performance.” He went on to say, “These technologies empower drivers and managers to adjust in real time to the traffic conditions in any location in the world. This is a natural progression of technical capability to adjust to the growing amount of data and information available from a truck. It moves us along the path to evermore connected fleets and evermore engaged drivers.”
